Concreto, acero y membrana

Colegio Alicante del Sol – Coliseo abierto. Chile 2009
Once again with Marsino Arquitectos, with a new project, this time in order to cover the college outdoor gym, this included the playground and grandstands.

The project is configured by six equal arches, they go to the floor through a change of material, reinforced concrete pillars tangent to the curve of the arch. The arches are organized in three pairs, as shown in the images, by determining three modules with the same surface area.

From the central module I determined a generatrix in space, which allows me to turn copies of the same, forming the torus section. We clearly read how it goes into the ground thanks to the continuity of the concrete columns.

Finally we are able to perceive it as an integral object; membrane, concrete and steel.

The  Bicentenario La Florida Stadium in Santiago de Chile and his twin, the Nelson Oyarzún Stadium , located in Chillan, are two of the four stadiums in which I participated in the design, both developed under the same concept and the same structural basis, making a single cover design for both.

The architectural firm that was in charge of both projects, Judson y Olivos Arquitectos sent us the general architecture (pictures above), this included the modulation and height of the stands, they asked us to design the cover and maintain the structural framework that was already developed, we should also respect the FIFA standards for these areas.

During the design we shared criteria, such as the use of straight lines and  simple forms, of this exchange result the design that I show, a very simple one, but I think it communicate very well with the facade architecture of both stadiums.

In relation to development, I work in nine typical modules, between these two distinct, those who go on the stands and the other on the building.

The surface of the membrane was developed within the rectangular frame, rigid by three sides and to the front with two cables that join with the central cable, that serves to drain the rainwater.

Estadio Monumental Colo Colo 2008

The general remodeling of the stadium was under the direction of architecture studio Garcés Marques and Associates; they asked us for a solution to cover the VIP stand, which was in very bad condition.

This work was very important to us, it was our first Intervention in a football stadium for the Chile's most important football club, this opened the door to participate in all the next stadiums that would come.

About the design, we propose to raise the level of the beams, as we see in the image colored in red, then over the sequence of beams we arranged perpendicular arches to this radio-oriented apparent path of the cantilever, thus forming a torus section.

The development was quite complex, there were no digital drawings, we had to conduct a topographical survey, which gave us the result that no beam was aligned, both vertically and horizontally, this led us to have many different pieces.

In order to give  flexibility to the structure and assembly, we designed three-Articulated arches.

Experimentando con la translucidez

Mall Paseo Quilin  -Patio central 2008

Under the direction of Alemparte Barreda Asociados, the Mall manager ask us to give a solution to cover the central square, the principal requirement was to protect the user from the Sun, because this space remained unusable in summer.
We proposed a simple surface, with two central cables as a rain gutter. The Cover is separated from the walls to avoid compromising the unique architecture of the Mall. To maintain the daylight brightness they asked us to make transparent membrane inserts, which are distributed randomly.I  paid special attention to the structure, specially to the steel tripod that holds the membrane, giving it a sculptural character.

Thanks to Arch. Jorge Marsino and our promoter in Chile, Eng. Jorge Roca, we were introduced in the international market, with the first tensile structure installed in the city of Santiago de Chile.

The College, designed by Marsino Arquitectos, needed a roof between two buildings to cover the playground. After a joint effort, we arrived at the most appropriate design for this space.

It consists in a decreasing sequence of tri-rotulated arches, in order to accommodate to the geometry and the movement of both buildings, structurally independent. The arches are supported on two steel beams, those connected to the columns of the building.

This work opened the doors to our now  best market, Chile. We opened an office in Santiago and then  I was in charge of caring for future clients there.

La primera "gran obra"

Centro Comercial Real Plaza - Chiclayo.

I had Participated in the design with the architect Aurora Perez, the main intention of the project manager (Artifice Arquitectos) was to control the sunlight and reduce wind speed.

In my case, with just one year of experience in the design of tensile structures, was very gratifying to participate in the design and development of this project, the design is quite simple, a series of twisted surfaces under the system pole-cable and a central cable which would serve to evacuate the rainwater into existing roofs.
